| Q: |
There are many domains that are listed as Expired, but when I check them on Registrar web site,
none of these names are available. Why? |
| A: |
When the program lists some domains as expired that doesn't mean they are available and can be registered.
A domain becomes expired if its owner didn't pay for the next year. But Registrars always hold a domain several days or months
in hope that its owner will renew it. It can take up to 60 days.
Then Registrar removes a domain from TLD zone so that domain name cannot be resolved to IP anymore.
When Registrar deletes a domain from its WHOIS database, so called Drop Cycle begins.
Drop cycle takes just a few days and depends on a Registrar. E.g. Network Solutions' drop cycle is 5 days.
Drop cycle ends when a domain is released to public and can be registered. The end of the drop cycle is called a domain drop.
Only after a domain was dropped, it will be listed as Available and you can register it.

| Q: |
Google Link Popularity is not working! It reported "0" links while Google search returns more...
|
| A: |
There are several ways of Google Link Popularity calculation. It's all about what request is sent to Google
search engine. Users use "domain.com", "www.domain.com", or even "http://www.domain.com".
By default, the program uses "link:domain.com" request and it's the best choice if you need to estimate Google Page Rank. The request string can be changed in the Program Options screen,
see Google Query setting. You should use %s to replace domain.com.
So the default request string is "link:www.%s".

| Q: |
What can I do to make Available Domains work faster?
|
| A: |
There are several settings that affect the program performance:
- First of all, choose the Prefered Mode. If your ISP blocked WHOIS port (43), switch to HTTP mode and clear Allow Alternative Mode
setting.
- If you don't need domain expiration date, clear Retrieve Additional Data checkbox.
- If you don't need Link Popularity, turn it off by clearing Check Link Popularity setting on the Link Popularity tab.

| Q: |
I've heard that Network Solutions WHOIS server can temporarily block user IP. What can be done to prevent this?
|
| A: |
These days some WHOIS servers put restrictions on how often it can be queried from the same IP, or how much connections at a time is accepted.
Available Domains domain checker first tries to use original WHOIS server. There are several settings preventing from WHOIS server abusing.
But even if WHOIS server decides to block your IP, the domain checker switches to alternative servers and stops using the original
one after a few responses that an IP has been blocked.
Thus Available Domains users can retrieve recent domain status at any time.
